The Nigeria Customs Service has announced the promotion of
2,132 junior officers who participated in the 2014 promotion exercise.
The Comptroller-general of customs, Abdullahi Dikko, gave
the approval to release the promotion results following the conclusion of the exercise
in Abuja.
The exercise which featured paper-based written tests and
oral interviews was conducted in all customs formations in October and November
last year.
Out of the total promoted in the junior officers’ cadre,
1,889 were in the general duty cadre while the remaining 243 were support
staff.
A breakdown of the promotion list showed that 1,006 officers
were promoted from the rank of assistant Inspector to Inspector while five
customs assistants 1 were promoted to the rank of senior customs assistants
even as 1,007 customs assistant II were promoted to customs assistant 1.
Dikko congratulated the promoted officers, and charged them
to re-double their efforts to justify their promotions.
Meanwhile, the process that will lead to the promotion of
over 2,000 senior officers is about to be completed as the senior officers have
already sat for a competitive computer-based examination and oral interview.
