Humble beginnings as an Essex call centre worker were a
distant memory for Olly Murs on Friday as he scooped one the night’s biggest
honours at the 50th annual Goldene Kamera Awards in Germany.
The 30-year-old singer was honoured with the accolade for
Best International Music after taking to the stage for performance with Chic
legend Nile Rodgers.
Looking dapper in a plaid suit and crisp white shirt, former
X Factor star Olly looked humbled as he gratefully accepted the award at in
Hamburg.
The singer previously admitted to MailOnline that a
rollercoaster five years of prolonged success in the music industry has helped
him break away from the comparatively conventional life plan followed by many
of his childhood pals in home town Witham.
What changed for me was The X Factor and this job, it’s like
it’s a second life in way – a fresh start,’ he said. ‘When I was 25 my
aspirations were to get a solid job and meet the girl of my dreams, settle down
and have a family before I’m 30.
‘Obviously things have massively changed. Now I see the
bigger picture; when I lived in a small town in Essex it was almost like it was
my destiny to do what everyone else does. You sort of follow the crowd because
that’s what you’re supposed to do.
