Oyo SDP promises better economy

The governorship candidate of the Oyo State Social Democratic Party,
Seyi Makinde, has said that the party has developed a blueprint that will turn around the economy of the state for good.

The businessman, who addressed market women in Ibadan on Saturday, said that SDP had realised that non-patronage of local contractors and irregular payment of workers’ salaries were factors that made poverty thrive among the people in the state.

Makinde explained that local contractors and the workers were two major consumers in the local market and that the pair had the capacity to energise the state economy.

He said, “Unfortunately, what we have in the state today is contrary, while contractors are not based in Oyo State and they take our money to Lagos State where they are based, workers are not regularly paid and they lack the purchasing power to go to the market, hence the low sales being recorded by our market men and women. SDP has worked hard to arrive at a solution that will put an end to poverty among our people. The political will to do it is not in doubt because this is a party that has its foundation on alleviating the suffering in our land.”

During the interaction with traders in Orita-Merin, Agbeni and Ogunpa markets, Makinde told the people that a government led by the SDP would redress the situation.

“The SDP administration will ensure that the state-based contractors are engaged to halt the incidence of capital flight and workers’ salaries will be paid as at when due. Traders will also enjoy credit facilities instead of neck-breaking loan from government. My purpose of joining politics is to drive away poverty from the land and not for self enrichment,” Makinde added.

Speaking on behalf of the traders, Rasheed Oloola, who is a sectional head in Orita-Merin market, commended the governorship candidate for his vision and focus. He said the traders would show their appreciation to the SDP by supporting its candidates during the elections.
