We’re already into Week Three of The Voice and the blind
auditions continue apace…
It was the week that Will and Ricky had a bit of a falling
out, there were lots of discussions about waistcoats and Paloma invented the
word ‘scrutinistic’. Oh and there were some more eager acts singing to the
backs of chairs.
Kicking off the show was Colet Selwyn, whose very deep voice
singing This Ole House was rather at odds with his smart appearance and young
face.
Sadly no one turned for the 21-year-old medical student despite the
coaches and audience loving his performance. A very surprised Ricky told him he
was amazing and George congratulated him for confusing them all.
Charley Birkin from Newcastle sang Rescue Me and the
powerful performance bagged her Boy George as a coach who told the 52-year-old
that there was a ‘real voice there’ and she had something earthy’ in her
sound. But he admitted he would be interested to hear her sing different
things.
This put George up to 5 confirmed acts in his team! And
after such a slow start. He said he probably needed to stop turning for quite
so many people now.
TV star Tom Milner (from Waterloo Road) was up next with a
cool version of Wait On Me which had Ricky spinning straight away.
And he
didn’t even know the young singer was also wearing a waistcoat! Ricky said the
voice was commercial and thought he could do a lot more with it so Tom was more
than happy to join Team Ricky to find out just what that might be.
Not so lucky Stacylee Richards didn’t progress any further
after singing a strong Say Something with an incredible ending! Will said she
had ‘rushed a couple of times’ but her voice had been ‘flawless’ and he’d loved
the ‘final lick’.
Paloma said they were idiots and George knew she’d carry on
singing.
Cody Lee took a chance singing one of the coaches songs –
The Kaiser Chiefs’ Ruby.
The 17-year-old played a mean piano and danced hard
but he also didn’t score a spot in the competition. Ricky himself said he’d
never heard a version like it and it was really impressive but couldn’t get
over the fact it was his own song.
Something different next as rocker Billy Black took to the
stage – with an impressive head of hair – to sing Bad Case Of Loving You.
The
audience lapped it up! But the 38-year-old also had to go home despite George
admitting he’d hit some great notes and got a great reaction.
Ricky obviously felt a little put upon because the other
three coaches had expected him to turn for Billy (and not because he was also
wearing a waistcoat) and ended up in a bit of a spat with Will about it who
said he should have.
Lauren Lapsley-Browne had a bit more luck as Will pressed
his button before she’d even sung the first line of Ain’t Nobody.
He was
quickly followed by Paloma and the poor girl looked like she was going to cry
her eyes out.
Paloma thought it had been a great song choice and Will said the
Dubliner had a ‘great tone’ and wondered what else she could sing and scored
another member of Team Will after suggesting he could be the Charlie to her
Angel.
There were more tears after Olivia Kate Davies performed a
funky Don’t Be So Hard On Yourself, but for slightly sadder reasons as no one
turned for the 17-year-old.
Will told her not to be so hard on herself and
George told her she was great and should see this as an opportunity to grow.
Businessman Efe Udugba took a break from the office to sing
a smooth version of Jealous which impressed Ricky enough to turn his chair for
the 31-year-old – and again he was wearing a waistcoat!
The singer from Essex
said he was looking forward to working with Ricky.
Brooke Waddle – daughter of England footballer Chris Waddle
– was nervous as she began to sing I Got The Music In Me but she soon rallied
and delivered a passionate performance.
But it wasn’t to be and the 27-year-old
had to go home to Sheffield despite Paloma saying she was ‘obviously a great
entertainer’. Ricky said she was a good singer but was looking for a ‘hook or a
quirk’.
An emotional Deano sang You Do Something To Me and it looked
like he’d also be going home but both Ricky and Paloma turned for him at the
last minute.
Paloma said if felt like someone had ‘shoved a load of gravel down
his throat’ which gave him a beautiful voice.
Ricky thought the singer from
Worthing could ‘go as far as he wanted to’ calling him ‘a normal guy with an
extraordinary voice’. But it was the new female judge who scored the act.
Finishing the show was former West End star Irene
Alano-Rhodes singing Wind Beneath My Wings and it was an extraordinary
performance.
Both Ricky and Will turned for her after being moved by the
incredible voice and emotion. Will said he liked a fighter and brought up the
fact his best friend was also from the Philippines.
Ricky said it was ‘one of
those voices that reached over the chairs’ and thought there might well have
been a ‘national standing ovation’ for the song but Irene signed up to Team
Will to be part of his family.
The show finished with Will in the lead with 6 acts, George
and Ricky both with 5 and Paloma with 4 But there are still more blind
auditions to go and spaces to be filled…
