On the 13th May, 2015 history was once again recorded in
favour of women’s intellect and ingenuity as Councillor Patricia Ekechi, at a
colourful ceremony took over the mayoral duties from predecessor, Councillor Ali
Bakir at London Borough of Enfield.
The
new mayor overwhelmed by family, friends and associates some of whom including
her children, uncles and wife as well as kinsmen had travelled from Nigeria and
Florida, USA to grace the occasion as the stated the obvious “I will be mayor
to the people”.
The
Nigerian-born mayor came to United Kingdom in 1977 for studies and thereafter
settled in Enfield where she had lived for 37 years. She represented Upper
Edmonton ward since 2010 and served as Deputy Mayor in 2014.
Given
the pedigree of this indefatigable personality, the political terrain in United
Kingdom is bound to experience significant transformation particularly from the
crop activists recently elected to represent boroughs and councils in UK.
Wishing
all stakeholders the very best.
