But hours after the frightening incident, Simon Cowell was
back at work as he spent Friday at the X Factor rehearsals in London.
The ITV show's head judge was spotted leaving the studio in
the evening, flashing a peace sign as he headed home.
The music mogul was grim-faced as he exited Fountain Studios
where his show is filmed, dressed head to toe in his trademark black.
Despite an obviously somber mood, Simon flashed a peace sign
at the cameras outside, after what was a trying day.
The X Factor judge had headed to work on Friday after his
£10million London home was burgled in the early hours as he and his family
slept, it has been reported.
The thieves broke into the property in the dead of night,
while Simon, his partner Lauren Silverman and their baby Eric were upstairs
sleeping.
They sneaked into the Holland Park property at 2.20am
yesterday and, after searching the house, spotted a key to a safe. This was
then emptied of cash and jewellery before the raiders fled.
‘Unfortunately security was anything but safe,’ an anonymous
source told The Sun. ‘The burglar found the key and bingo, he was in.’
Some of the gems were of sentimental value and there was
some cash in the safe. The value of what was taken is well into six figures.
Simon, 56 and Lauren, 38, only found out about the burglary
when they were woken up by their personal minder. The bodyguard had been woken
by an alarm.
Obviously Simon and Lauren are really badly shaken by this,’
a family friend said. ‘It is a horrible violation of their privacy. But more
than anything they are incredibly relieved no one was hurt.
‘As upsetting as it is, Simon can cope with losing
possessions as long as his family are safe. That is his one and only concern.
Still, it’s incredibly worrying and he is obviously going to review security.’
It's a busy weekend for Simon as the X Factor enters the
semi-final phase.
While Simon has no acts remaining from his Overs category,
he'll be overseeing Saturday night's live show as Rita Ora's Girls Lauren
Murray and Louisa Johnson, Cheryl Fernandez-Versini's Group Reggie 'N' Bollie
and Nick Grimshaw's Che Chesterman go head to head for a place in the final.
