Coldplay may have been the headliners, but the Super Bowl halftime spot turned into the Beyonce show on Sunday.

    Scroll down for video
The 34-year-old singer joined the British rock band and fellow guest Bruno Mars as they hit the stage at the Super Bowl 50 Halftime Show on Sunday night.

The two talented singers and British band captivated the audience in attendance at Levi's Stadium in Santa Clara, California with their energetic performance as they ended it with fans in the audience holding signs that read 'Believe in love' when put together.

While the overall performance was rather light and fun, Beyonce made a strong political statement with her backing dancers' costumes inspired by members of armed rights group the Black Panthers.

Only Beyonce could get away with using such a high profile moment to promote a new track - which she did with a triumphant performance of Formation, which has widely been touted as a rallying cry for the Black Lives Matter movement.

At one point during the song, the supporting performers formed an 'X' on the field - thought to reference black rights campaigner Malcolm X

They wore black berets and leather much like members of the militant group, who were formed in 1966 as a revolutionary black nationalist and socialist organisation during the Civil Rights Movement.

Beyonce began her highly-anticipated performance with old hit Run The World (Girls) as her dancers moved to reveal the talented star wearing an outfit inspired by Michael Jackson.

Her outfit was reminiscent of the legendary singer's iconic Super Bowl XXVII performance back in 1993 as she also wore a black military style jacket with gold metallic detailings including two gold straps over her shoulders which resembled bandoliers.

Beyonce just broke the internet. Again. She did not come to play the Superbowl. She came to slay.
And that she did. In a custom made bodysuit by Aston Michael, leather military jacket and harness by DSquared and boots from Christian Louboutin, no less.

Beyonce has superhuman powers when it comes to dictating style so we all must hurry to invest in some military inspired jackets. We've seen Balmain use the trend heavily with it's balmainarmy but now it's a MUST-HAVE with Bey leading us into formation.

Check out StyleBop's simple version of the jacket to the right and find some gold chains to adorn it yourself. We've also found some striking versions on the virtual high street as well as another DSQUARED2 jacket with gold adornments in the sale at Luisaviaroma.com.

Pair yours with a contrasting floral mini to illustrate the beauty of war and peace.
