Teenager arrested after man raped in toilets of Next in

Police were called to the city centre store at 11.30am on
Friday after reports the man in his 50s had been attacked
A teenager has been arrested after reports a man was raped
in the Next store in the Arndale centre .
Police were called shortly after 11.30am yesterday after
receiving reports a man in his 50s had been raped in the toilets of the
department store , which was busy with customers at the time.
It is understood a suspect had already been detained by
Arndale security staff when officers arrived after the alarm was raised.
A 19-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of rape and
taken into custody where he is currently being questioning by detectives.
The alleged victim is currently receiving support from specialist
officers.
GMP chiefs have described it as ‘shocking’ but thanked staff
for their swift response.
Detective Sergeant Chris Maddocks from GMP’s Serious Sexual
Crimes Unit said: “This was an incredibly shocking incident which happened in a
busy store today.
“Our specialist officers are with the victim and will ensure
he has all the support he needs.
“We would like thank the staff at Next and the Arndale
Centre, we have a man in custody and it is thanks to their swift action.”
