A female police officer has been seriously injured and four
male officers have been injured in an axe attack.
South Yorkshire Police said the five officers had been hurt
during an incident in Sheffield last night.
The woman PC suffered multiple serious injuries when
responding to a domestic incident at 7.50pm yesterday evening.
Police said in a statement: ‘The PC and a second male
officer were injured as they made attempts to arrest the man.
‘Then three other officers, all men, were also injured as
they arrested the man, in his 30s, inside the Co-op store, in Blackstock Road,
on suspicion of attempted murder. He remains in custody.
‘There was a significant police presence in the area
overnight and cordons are still in place at the scene. We’d like to thank residents
in the street and close by for their patience.
